🍗 Gravy

Prep: 2 minCook: 5-7 minZero stress!

🎯 My Gravy Plan: Semi-Homemade (Option 2)

The sweet spot: Store-bought consistency + homemade flavor = zero stress, maximum deliciousness

What You Need

  • • 1-2 jars or packets of store-bought turkey or chicken gravy
  • • Pan drippings from your turkey
  • • 1 cup chicken stock (optional, for thinning)
  • • 1 tablespoon butter (optional, but recommended)
  • • Black pepper
  • Optional umami boosters:
  • - Tiny dash of soy sauce (⅛ tsp) OR
  • - Tiny bit of Worcestershire sauce

Step-by-Step Method

1. Heat the store-bought gravy

Put it in a pot on medium heat. This is your "base."

2. Add your turkey drippings (the magic part!)

When turkey is done, tilt the roasting pan and spoon out:

  • Some of the liquid
  • Some of the flavorful brown bits

Add ½ to 1 cup of these to your gravy. This instantly transforms it.

3. Taste it

If it tastes amazing already, you're basically done. If it needs a lift, move to step 4.

4. Maximize flavor (quick finishing touches)

  • Butter: Add 1 tbsp for silky finish
  • Black pepper: A few cracks
  • Salt: Only if needed
  • Soy sauce (⅛ tsp): Deepens savoriness
  • Stock: Add a splash if too thick

5. Simmer 3-5 minutes

This blends everything so it doesn't taste "store-bought." Let it burble like a happy cauldron.

Result

  • ✅ Consistency of store-bought
  • ✅ The roasted flavor of homemade
  • ✅ Zero risk of lumps
  • ✅ Zero stress
  • ✅ A gravy that people will think you made from scratch

⏰ Timing

Best made: Right after turkey comes out, while it rests
